βŒ‚ The Portico

Learn the signs, the planets and the houses one lesson at a time: the seven classical spheres as a ladder, the twelve signs around their own wheel, and sect and the four elements as two pillars. This is what a chart is built from, before it is read.

The twelve signs in their running order, each with its archetype, myth and dignities.

Solstice at the top, equinox on the left, the Sun's own path run clockwise β€” the wheel keeps this architecture before any single sign is even read. Four hinges break it into quarters: Aries opens the year, Cancer completes its rise, Libra opens the turn back down, Capricorn closes it. Three axes run straight through the centre β€” the Sun and Moon's own house facing Saturn's, the wheel's own life-and-death line; Mars facing Venus; Jupiter facing Mercury. Twelve signs, but never twelve equal spokes.

The first sign, cardinal fire β€” the raw start before it has learned caution. What the year opens with: appetite, initiative, and the courage that acts before it fully understands.
The ram of the golden fleece
Sent by Nephele to carry her children Phrixus and Helle to safety, the ram flew them east; Helle fell into the strait that still carries her name, the Hellespont, but Phrixus completed the flight and sacrificed the ram in gratitude. Its fleece became the prize the Argonauts would later sail for; its likeness was fixed among the stars.
